The Victorian Government recognises the crucial role of small arts organisations to the arts industry. Small organisations operate across society and the state, involving youth, multicultural, disadvantaged, regional and Indigenous communities. They provide many arts workers and artists with experience and professional opportunities and they collectively contribute to the reputation of Victoria as a thriving arts capital with a reputation for innovation.
Increased support for small arts organisations was provided in the State Budget 2006/07 and Arts Victoria is also undertaking significant research into the sector. This research aims to determine the scale of the entire small arts sector, not just the funded sector, and better understand the characteristics of small arts organisations across Victoria including the extent of their activity, the people involved, and their contribution to the state.
The results of this study will inform future policy and funding decisions. So the research represents a golden opportunity for small arts organisations to have a say.
We are interested to hear from the full spectrum of Small Arts organisations across all art forms, those who currently receive Government support, those who operate independently and those who may need support in the future. To plan for the future we need to have a clear understanding of the issues facing small arts communities.
Please take the opportunity to complete this basic questionnaire. The success of the research depends on your participation and the participation of as many small arts organisations as possible , including discrete arts programs or units of non-arts organisations. Completion time for the questionnaire is approximately 30-40 minutes and all information provided is confidential; individual responses cannot be identified. Due to the confidential nature of this research, a public report will not be issued.
